Frequently Asked Questions About LVD

Here are a few common questions about the Low Voltage Directive (LVD):

  • What is the new approach strategy?

The new approach strategy is a European Union strategy which was implemented by the Council Decision in 1985. In this application, new principles have been adopted for technical legislation harmonization and standardization. The new approach strategy requires the harmonization of the basic requirements and the necessity of these requirements with the directives. The technical specifications of the products that meet the basic requirements with the relevant directives are determined in harmonized standards. Implementation of harmonized standards or other standards is voluntary. Businesses may apply to other standards to meet technical requirements. Products manufactured in accordance with harmonized standards are considered to comply with the basic requirements.

  • What are the new approach directives?

The 22 directive, including the LVD Low Voltage Directive, EMC Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, Machinery Safety Directive, Pressure Equipment Directive, Construction Materials Directive, Medical Devices Directive and Radio and Telecommunication Equipment have been issued. Most of these directives require CE marking on the products.

  • What is CE marking?

European Union countries accept that products bearing CE marking comply with the relevant directive provisions. Therefore, if the provisions of the CE marking are applied correctly, these products cannot be prevented from being offered to the country markets. In this respect, these products have gained the right to free circulation.

  • When was the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) first introduced?

The first directive based on the safe use of electrical devices, equipment and systems designed and manufactured to operate with low voltage is the Low Voltage Directive 1973 / 73 / EEC issued in 23. In line with the development of technology and needs over time, this directive was repealed in 2006 and the Low Voltage Directive 2006 / 95 / EC was implemented. The latest version of the directive, which was subsequently updated in 2014, is the Low Voltage Directive 2014 / 35 / EU.

  • Which legal regulation is applicable in our country?

Within the scope of the harmonization studies with the European Union, the above directives published in the European Union countries have also been harmonized with our domestic law. Most recently, 2016 issued the Regulation on Electrical Equipment (2014 / 35 / EU) designed by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology for specific voltage limits.
