Low Voltage Directive (2014 / 35 / EU)

The first directive in the European Union countries is the Low Voltage Directive (LVD), 1973 / 73 / EEC, issued in 23 to ensure the safety of electric vehicles in homes and workplaces. This directive was abolished with the update works in 2006 and the 2006 / 95 / EC Low Voltage Directive was implemented. Finally, in 2014, the Low Voltage Directive 2014 / 35 / EU was finalized.

This directive is based on the safe use of electrical devices and equipment designed and manufactured to operate at low voltage.

Low-voltage networks consist of power lines from distribution transformers to consumers. In general, low voltage networks are easy to maintain and insulate. Electricity is supplied to homes and businesses via the low voltage network. Voltages with an active value below 1000 Volts or 1000 Volts are called low requirements.

The Low Voltage Directive 2014 / 35 / EU covers all electrical devices and equipment that use a voltage between 50 Volt alternating current or 75 Volt direct current and 1000 Volt alternating current or 1500 Volt direct current.

Businesses that fully comply with the safety requirements and conformity assessment processes included in this Directive, which is among the Newly Approached Directives introduced in the European Union countries, will be able to place the CE mark on their products. CE marking and free movement in European Union countries was initiated in 1990.

According to the previously published 2006 / 95 / EC directive, the new 2014 / 35 / EU directive contains a number of fundamental changes. For example,

  • CE marking application will be prepared in terms of the technical file, the product will include the results of risk analysis and evaluation.
  • The technical documentation of the CE marking and the publication of the European Union Declaration of Conformity will be the sole responsibility of the manufacturer.
  • In addition, the CE technical documentation prepared will be kept for ten years after the product is placed on the market.
  • If there is no appropriate standard for the products, the appropriate local standards or Standards published from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) traffic can be used.
  • Type, batch and serial numbers will be placed on the products.
  • The new directive has strengthened market surveillance through market surveillance processes.
  • The security scope of the new directive has been extended to include pets.
  • The new directive also takes into account chemical, physical, mechanical, vibration, noise and ergonomic risks.
