LVD Tests for Lighting Devices

Lighting equipment and equipment sector is the fastest growing sub-sector in electrical equipment production sector. Just thirty years ago, the lighting sector, which was operating at a very small size, has now become a market exceeding two billion dollars. The lighting sector in the world generally operates as general lighting, automotive lighting and background lighting. In our country, activities are mainly focused on general lighting.

Considering the increase in lighting culture and awareness in our country and the development potential in the areas of housing need, urban transformation, non-residential building investments and outdoor lighting, the lighting sector is targeted to grow further. However, production in this sector is mainly in the form of procurement and installation of inputs from outside the country. Nevertheless, efforts to use energy efficiently and the rapid development of LED technology play a decisive role in determining the future of the lighting sector.

In the meantime, the issue of electricity, people's life and property safety is important. All lighting devices and equipment are covered by the Regulation on Electrical Equipment (2016 / 2014 / EU), designed by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology for specific voltage limits issued in 35. LVD tests of lighting devices and equipment designed and manufactured to operate at low voltage are performed within this framework.

Here are a few of the standards based on LVD testing for lighting devices:

  • TS EN 60598-1 Lighting fixtures - Part 1: General rules and tests (IEC 60598-1: 2014, modified)
  • TS 8698 EN 60598-2-1 Lighting fixtures - Part 2-1: Special requirements - General purpose, fixed
  • TS EN 60598-2-2 Lighting Fixtures - Part 2-2: Special requirements - Recessed luminaires
  • TS EN 60598-2-3 Lighting fixtures - Part 2-3: Specific features - For road and street lighting
  • TS 8701 EN 60598-2-4 Lighting fixtures - Part 2-4: Special requirements - General purpose, portable
  • TS EN 60598-2-5 Lighting fixtures - Part 2-5: Special rules - Projectors
  • TS EN 60598-2-25 Lighting fixtures - Part 2-25: Special rules - Used in clinical areas of hospitals and health care centers
