Rope Tests and Evaluation

Ropes have been manufactured and used in various ways since humans existed. In the early days it was often used to network, tie trees and bridge over deep valleys. It became the basic material of the seafarers after people began to sail. In particular, ropes are used for stretching and anchoring sails. Today it has an important function in ships.

Ropes are a long, flexible and robust type of rope obtained by twisting or stranding of natural or man-made fibers or wires. If the rope is made of wires, these are often called cables or wire ropes. The main features of the ropes are that they retain their strength when they are twisted, twisted or pulled, and their structure is not deteriorated. Highly resistant to tensile strength.

The main factors that determine the texture and structure of the ropes are the fineness, stiffness, stretchability and durability of the fibers and strands used in the construction. For example, cotton ropes are weaker and softer. Ropes made of hemp and jute are stronger and stronger. Since even the shortest fibers can be bent and turned into a flexible and long yarn, it is possible to make ropes of all kinds of fibers.

Some ropes are made of wires drawn from extrudable metals or synthetic polymers. In these ropes, each wire extends continuously along the rope, unlike ropes made from natural fibers. Ropes made of the same material but thick wires are harder than ropes made of thin wires. In recent years, artificial fibers have begun to replace natural fibers.

Organizations that provide control and inspection services also conduct rope tests and assessments. Our company scope of surveillance servicesconducts and evaluates rope tests. In these studies, the relevant legal regulations and standards published by domestic and foreign organizations are complied with. A few standards are based on:

  • TS EN 1709 Safety rules for rope-line installations designed for the carriage of persons - Pre-commissioning inspection, maintenance, inspection and checks on operation
  • TS EN 12408 Safety regulations for rope installations designed for the carriage of people - Quality assurance
  • TS EN ISO 1346 Ropes - Polypropylene splitted film, single filament, multi filament and polypropylene high strength multi filament
  • TS EN 12385-1 + A1 Steel wire ropes - Safety - Part 1: General requirements
