Insulation Resistance Measurement

Insulation resistance measurement is one of the tests that must be carried out for all electrical devices both during production and during later maintenance and repair services. These measurements detect malfunctions that threaten the safety of people's lives and property. In all electrical devices, insulation must normally be provided between the live parts and the live parts. Otherwise, electricity may be present at points where electrical energy should not be present and may be dangerous. Insulation must be provided not only in terms of external surfaces, but also in the interior of these devices. This is very important for the normal operation of the devices.

Essentially insulating materials are those which do not transmit heat, sound and electrical current around the point where they are. Insulating materials may vary depending on where they are used. Because an insulator that is very good for sound, it may not be effective in thermal insulation, or it can easily transmit electrical current.

Electrically insulating is the state of not conducting electricity in a simple way. From a physical point of view, all substances have conductivity, but some substances have a higher strength, while some substances are much more conductive. This is called insulation resistance. As soon as the electric current rises above this resistance value, the material conducts the electricity. To calculate the insulation resistance, first apply a constant voltage and measure the current. The ratio of the voltage value to the current value indicates the insulation resistance.

Insulation tests are performed by various methods. For example, one of these methods is high voltage insulation test. When testing with this method, a voltage is applied which will not damage the cable. There are various insulation testers that measure the insulation resistance. All of these are generators that produce direct current at different stages. These devices are also commonly referred to as Insulation Megeri. These devices are used for insulation resistance tests of large motors. It is also used in insulation resistance tests of low voltage, medium voltage and high voltage cables, electrical devices and transformers, and also in insulation resistance tests of high voltage generators.
