Periodic Inspection and Inspection of Autoclave

Autoclave devices are devices with high vapor pressure. In order to store high steam pressure safely, steam boilers which are produced with high pressure resistance are used. When designing autoclaves, physical strength is prioritized. Sterilization is the most common application area. Since the nineteenth century has been used in the field of microbiology for sterilization purposes. The autoclaves perform sterilization with saturated water vapor under pressure. Temperature transfer is faster because moisture is present in the sterilization environment.

The autoclaves have an automatic locking system that prevents accidental opening of the lid and vapor escaping when the pressure in it increases. In fact, the destruction of microorganisms during sterilization is not due to the high pressure surface, but because of the high temperature.

Sterilization power of steam is very high. Because when steam condenses to form water, the germ-killing effect emits its latent heat. At this time, it decreases in volume, which increases the penetration power of the steam. The basic principle in the sterilization process of autoclaves is to ensure that the saturated water vapor with a certain temperature is in contact with each point of the material to be sterilized for a sufficient time. Saturated water vapor is water vapor at the boiling point temperature of the water.

Autoclaves are generally used in hospitals, large clinics and laboratories of any type. However, because they work under pressure, they are at risk for human health and property safety. Therefore, according to the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, it must be checked and inspected at least once a year by authorized persons such as mechanical engineers, machine technicians or high technicians.

Our company conducts regular inspections and inspections of autoclaves within the scope of regular controls of pressure vessels in accordance with the relevant legal regulations and standards published by domestic and foreign organizations. A few standards considered in these studies are:

  • TS EN 13060 Small steam sterilizers
  • TS EN 285 Sterilization - Steam autoclaves - Large autoclaves
  • TS EN ISO 11140-1 Sterilization of healthcare equipment - Chemical indicators - Part 1: General properties
  • TS EN 12347 Biotechnology - Performance criteria for steam sterilizers and autoclaves
  • TS EN ISO 17665-1 Sterilization of healthcare products - Moist heat - Part 1: Specifications for the development, validation and routine control of the sterilization process for medical devices
