Periodic Inspection and Inspection of Gas Cylinders

Maintenance of gas cylinders is based on TS EN 1968 standard. This standard covers the requirements for regular inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of welded or seamless steel tubes manufactured to TS EN 13322-1, 2 and TS EN ISO 9809-1, 2, 3 standards. The service life of gas cylinders varies according to the type of gases filled into them. In order to re-use the tubes after these expiration periods, they must be checked and inspected according to TS EN 1968 standard. It is a legal obligation to have these controls and inspections carried out in terms of the safety of life and property of the users on the one hand and the businesses performing the filling works on the other.

According to the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, gas cylinders are included in the pressure vessels and installations group and their controls are required at least once a year. In addition, control and inspection operations should be performed by mechanical engineers, machine technicians and high technicians.

Our company conducts regular inspections and inspections of gas cylinders within the framework of periodic controls of pressure vessels in accordance with the relevant legal regulations and standards and test methods published by domestic and foreign organizations. These standards are included in the tables attached to the regulation. However, after the publication of the regulation, new standards regarding the issue issued must also be taken into consideration. Here are a few standards that are based on the controls for today:

  • TS EN 1968 Portable gas cylinders - Seamless - Periodic inspection and testing for steel gas cylinders
  • TS EN 13322-1 Portable gas cylinders - Refillable welded steel gas cylinders - Design and manufacture - Part 1: Carbon steels
  • TS EN 13322-2 ... Section 2: Stainless steels
  • TS EN ISO 9809-1 Gas cylinders - Refillable seamless steel gas cylinders - Design, construction and testing - Part 1: Tensile strength and tempered steel tubes smaller than 1100 mpa
  • TS EN ISO 9809-2 ... Section 2: Tensile and tempered steel tubes with tensile strength equal to or greater than 1100 mpa
  • TS EN ISO 9809-3 ... Section 3: Normalized steel tubes
