API 650 standard specifies minimum requirements for material, design, production, installation and testing of liquid storage tanks, which are produced in various sizes and capacities as vertical, cylindrical, welded, closed and open ceilings and which store petroleum products such as diesel. Designed and manufactured according to API 650 standard, the working pressure of the tanks is the same as the atmospheric pressure.
API 620 standard includes the design and production of large, welded, low pressure carbon steel storage tanks with a single vertical axis.
Classification is the most important point in proper storage. A classification to be made in the form of flammable substances, abrasives, oxidizing agents, explosive substances and compressed gases is the most eastern. This classification should be made taking into account the properties of the chemicals to be stored.
For example, stored compressed gases contain a large amount of energy and have high flammability potential. As a result of impact or fall, the energy in the storage tank can spread rapidly and suddenly released energy can have an explosion effect.
Explosives are chemical substances that react under sudden pressure changes and high temperature effects. In some conditions they may explode violently.
Due to the risks it carries, it is necessary to inspect and inspect the storage tanks at regular intervals. This legal obligation is in accordance with the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment published in 2013. Inspection and inspection of the storage tanks belonging to the pressure vessels and installations group is required at least once a year. These checks must be carried out by mechanical engineers, high technicians and machine technicians.
