In this case, it can be said that the issue of occupational health and safety creates an awareness in society. In short, occupational safety is a set of measures that are taken to ensure that employees work in a healthy and safe environment. Depending on the type of activity of the enterprises, work carried out within the framework of a method to protect employees from possible hazards and to create a safer working environment in order to carry out the works without any problems in the workplace is considered as occupational safety. However, the issue of occupational safety is not limited to employees. It covers the working environment, especially the employees, the enterprises, the suppliers, the companies they do business with and the environmental conditions in which the work is done.

Today, occupational safety has become a branch of science. In the above-mentioned framework, the precautions to be taken in case of the occurrence of the risks of occupational accidents and occupational diseases in the workplace are handled in full detail. Naturally, it is the employer's responsibility to prepare these processes and provide the necessary equipment. In addition, other persons in charge of the company are responsible for their duties and authorities. The subject of occupational health and safety in scientific terms extends to the fields of law, economics, medicine, sociology and psychology. There are various legal regulations on this issue.

In terms of occupational health and safety, not only ergonomic conditions, but also the conditions of the working environment are an important factor. In order to manage the possible risks depending on the types of activities of enterprises OHSAS Occupational Health and Safety Management System standard has been developed. This standard was developed by the British Standards Organization (BSI) and based on occupational health and safety, rather than the safety of products or services such as ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 standards.

The OHSAS 18001 standard was published by TSE in our country under the following headings:

  • TS 18001 Occupational health and safety management systems - Terms
  • TS 18002 Occupational health and safety management systems - TS 18001 application guide

However, since the OHSAS 18001 standard was not accredited, the International Organization for Standardization (2014) established a committee in the year of 45001 and initiated efforts to develop this standard. This new standard will be published under the ISO XNUMX Occupational Health and Safety Management System standard.

The foundation of the OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System standard is based on the British standard BS 8800.
